17 winchester super magnum ammo
The .17 Winchester Super Magnum (WSM) is a rimfire rifle cartridge introduced in
2012 by the ammunition manufacturer Winchester. It was developed by necking
down a .27 caliber nail-gun blank cartridge to accept a .17 caliber (4.5mm)
bullet.
The initial loadings used a 20-grain (1.3 g) bullet, capable of achieving impressive
muzzle velocities of approximately 3,000 feet per second (910 m/s).

The .17 WSM was officially unveiled at the 2013 SHOT Show by Winchester and
Savage.
Compared to the .17 HMR, the .17 WSM features a brass case that’s about half
as thick, allowing for a higher maximum average internal pressure of 33,000 psi,
compared to 26,000 psi for the .17 HMR. Due to these differences, firearms
chambered for .17 HMR cannot safely use .17 WSM, and vice versa.
